James is a presentation and
communication expert. Through his work as a magician, director, dramaturge and
educational arts practitioner he has develop the communication skills of
professionals across the country.
He read Drama and English at the University of Leeds (St. John's College, York)
before studying for an MA in Text and Performance at King's College London and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).
James completed his Ph.D in October 2020, entitled Performing Miracles:
the real magic behind the performance - based on the performance
practicalities and theories of close-up magic.
He has worked as an actor and director across the country, including directing
in London. James is an Associate of the Inner Magic, the world’s most
prestigious magic society in London, and a Member of The Society of American
Magicians (International Assembly). He also performs close-up magic worldwide.
James works as a Senior Lecturer at a UK university delivering modules on Theatre
and Performance. He was the Performance Consultant for the 2016 UK tour of the Champions
of Magic. He has presented papers at education and research conferences in
Cumbria and Las Vegas. He has lectured twice at The Magic Circle in London
offering performance advice for close-up magicians. Every year James attends
the world’s largest magic convention in Blackpool to share his research and
passion for magic.
James is also a communication and
presentation consultant for businesses across the country through his company
Arctic Hare, and his experience spans performance, presentation and communication skills
developed over 30 years.
With this wealth of knowledge James offers an expert’s eye on methods of
communication.
James is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and holds an Enhanced DBS.
